The Mishneh Torah, one of the first comprehensive codes of Jewish Law, was composed by Moses Maimonides between 1170 and 1180 CE. The manuscript of the Mishneh Torah owned by the Bodleian Library contains the first two books of the Code: Sefer ha-Madda and Sefer Ahavah. Folio 165 includes a signature line that reads, 鈥淚t has been corrected from my own book. I am Moses son of Rabbi Maimon of blessed memory.鈥 This testimony by the author himself lends great authority to the manuscript and makes it one of the most important in the Bodleian Library鈥檚 Hebrew manuscripts collection.
